What is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate lists expected charges for scheduled items or services before care is provided. Under federal rules, uninsured or self-pay individuals are generally entitled to receive an estimate for scheduled care.

Who may receive one?

You may be eligible when you do not have insurance or do not plan to use insurance to pay for the scheduled service. People using insurance may also request cost information, but the process may differ.

An estimate is not a bill

Actual charges can change if the planned service changes or if additional services are needed. You may receive separate estimates or bills from the facility, surgeon, anesthesia professional or other providers.

How to request an estimate

If you are uninsured or planning to pay yourself, contact SPOSC at (910) 725-6740 to ask about a Good Faith Estimate. The official patient notice explains your rights and the estimate process.
